Jack-o-Lantern in blender
As its Halloween I decided to make a scene in blender of pumpkin lamps. I am Indian and halloween is not part of my culture, because of that it was hard to imagine it to make it. I knew halloween through pop culture and hollywood reference. All though my process was not completely good but I am happy with the final result which come out
As for a general start I gathered some references watched some of the youtube videos and started modeling the pumpkin and made cuts using knife tools for eyes and mouth. And used displacement modifier for making some wrinkles and scratches and making the surface uneven. After that I made some varieties of the pumpkins with proportional editing.
After that I started to building up the scene which was firstly in my head. For environment I downloaded a grass field model form blender swap and appended it into my scene.
Then I sculpted the candles for some details and sculpted varieties of them. And rather than adding some more geo for making flame of the candle I used simple plane with alpha transparency and with emission material. Well I do think the high res models are kind of unnecessary but, it just went like that.
After the candles was done I added some more details to wall material and other materials and lighting and all the other crazy hard to figure out things and after configuring and testing, I set the render samples to 2500 and press the render button and after 2 hrs 27 min and 29 seconds the render was done. It had still some noise because of subsurface scattering and 2500 samples might have less for the scene but then I added some glow in compositor and saved the image.
For the finishing touches and other things to make the render pop out I imported the image in photoshop and added those touches to images and saved the image and I was done
